About Us

EXCEL Academy of Texas offers a unique combination of structure, balanced priorities, and positive influences to produce sober, well rounded, and productive young men and women.

Structure: EXCEL Academy of Texas students follow a daily routine that optimizes success; offering opportunities to engage in academically, programmatically, and physically enriching activities. Idle time is rare as the typical EXCEL Academy student has struggled with the ability to manage time appropriately in the past. Time spent in school, group activities, and recreation is integrated into a full yet manageable day for students.

Positive Environment: EXCEL Academy of Texas's performance based level system, based on Stages of Change by Prochaska and DiClemente, affords students the chance to earn privileges and responsibilities by completing assignments. As academic and programmatic progress is made, students move through the levels and are rewarded for their hard work.

Balanced Priorities: EXCEL Academy of Texas realizes that life is not solely about work. Play time is imperative in developing friendships, sportsmanship, and physical well-being. Students are encouraged to participate in on-campus activities such as basketball, soccer, baseball, and weight training. Students who have earned off-campus privileges can play golf, work with horses at the local YMCA, or hike through the trails in the National Forest. Those who are not physically inclined can participate in band and choir, play board games and cards, or enjoy approved movies and music.

New Kids: New students are not left alone to ruminate about their problems. EXCEL Academy's strong positive community culture promotes togetherness; to that end, new students are mentored by older students. This gives new kids the opportunity to talk to someone who has been where they are. It also allows the older students to feel valued for their contributions. Life-long friendships are built on the basis of trust, honesty, and accountability.

Academics: EXCEL Academy of Texas staff is expected to display the same qualities and principles that we ask of our students in order to teach by example. Since we insist the student reach his or her optimal level we expect the same of our staff team members. Our Academics staff hold Master's degrees or are certified in their respective subjects. Their passion for providing individualized and high quality instruction is remarkable. Our Counseling Team are all Masters Prepared and therapists are licensed and supervised by our Clinical Director. We value and look for dedicated professionals who role model our values and who view their employment with EXCEL as more than a job.
