Life at EXCEL Academy of Texas boarding school for troubled teens is a balance of work, play and recovery related skills building. On the weekdays, students wake up around 6:30 a.m. Each student is expected to be dressed appropriately for school and have their areas clean by the time they leave at 7:00 a.m. Students head to the school for their classes at 8:00 a.m. Lunch, prepared by our expert Culinary Services Staff, starts at 11:30 a.m. and is always nutritious, great tasting, and "teen friendly."
After lunch students clean up and return to class. The school day ends at 1:30 p.m., where skills-building groups and group counseling occur. Afterwards, sports and recreational activities are offered and then an on or off-campus AA meeting (depending on level of the student). Afterwards, the students head to their dorms to shower and start their evening activities. A great dinner is offered in the Dining Hall or "Lodge" and evenings are relaxed until lights out between 9 - 10 p.m.
In the evenings, students have the option to either do study hall or to have free time. This is one way in which students learn to be responsible and juggle work and play.
The weekend schedule has less programmed structure than the weekdays. Typical weekend activities include enjoying the recreational center, pool table, ping-pong table, and a big screen entertainment system. Just outside of this building are a basketball court, soccer field, and swimming pool. Also available are weight sets and a large, fully stocked pond for seasonal fishing.
