Science Courses
Biology - At EXCEL Academy, Biology is a course that explores the wonders of life. Students learn about the various kingdoms of living things. They explore in depth the animal kingdom. Students learn what defines something as living and the makeup of a cell. The human body is also explored briefly. The environment is researched and broken up into its different parts. Students research the interaction between various living things and how they support each other in their environments.
Chemistry - Students taking this course will learn how to use the periodic table, how to name compounds, and how to make compounds. They learn basic chemical formulas and chemical equations. They thoroughly learn all the chemistry language from the dozens of definitions in almost every chapter. The course teaches how to take given information and decipher it, ending with a solution. The exams require comprehension and applications of the information, not simply rote memorization.
IPC - This course applies the basic laws of physics and chemistry to everyday life. Emphasis is placed on critical thinking, problem solving, reading comprehension and organizational skills. Topics include forces and motion, waves, energy transformations, energy sources, chemical reactions and the composition and properties of matter.
Physics - A combination of laboratory experiments and theory are used to develop the following topics: velocity, acceleration, forces, momentum, energy, heat, sound and light. Prerequisites: Algebra 2.
